Black Friday: The Best Deals on Champagne and Whisky Glasses
Two categories, two different pricing logics — here's where to actually look this year before the holidays.
Champagne and whisky: two different Black Friday logics
We tend to talk about Black Friday as one single moment for everyone. In reality, champagne glassware and whisky glassware don't react the same way to this period at all — for a simple reason: each has its own sales calendar.
Champagne glasses see a natural demand spike between Black Friday and New Year's Eve, which pushes brands to push harder on promotions during that exact window. Whisky glasses and decanters, on the other hand, are tied more to Christmas gift shopping than to one specific drinking date — so the promotional logic there is a bit different, spread out more evenly across December.
Champagne glasses: what actually drops
On champagne glasses, Black Friday mostly targets classic collections and multi-glass sets — logical, since New Year's Eve rarely calls for a single glass but rather a full service to host with. More design-forward models (gold rim, smoked tint) follow, but with somewhat more modest markdowns.
- Sets of 4 or 6 glasses: this is usually where the discount is most visible, since the average basket is higher.
- Classic single glasses: moderate discount, useful for topping up an existing collection before hosting.
- Special-finish editions (gold rim, engraving): lighter discount, more limited stock.
Whisky: glasses and decanters, two different realities
On whisky, the picture splits in two. Whisky glasses (often bought as a single piece or a pair) follow a logic close to wine glasses: decent discounts, generally sufficient stock, low risk of selling out before Christmas.
Whisky decanters, on the other hand, are almost always bought as a gift — which makes them a prime target for Black Friday promotions, but also an item with a higher risk of selling out on the most detailed models (faceted cuts, crystal finishes). If you have a specific decanter in mind as a gift, don't count on guaranteed availability after November 27th.
| Category | Black Friday discount | Risk of selling out |
|---|---|---|
| Classic champagne glass | Moderate | Low |
| Champagne glass set | Strong | Moderate |
| Whisky glass (single/pair) | Moderate | Low |
| Whisky decanter | Moderate | High on detailed models |
New Year's Eve changes the game for champagne
Unlike wine or whisky, champagne has a very concentrated drinking date: December 31st. That means the useful window to receive champagne glasses in time is actually shorter than it looks — ordering during Black Friday leaves a good margin, but waiting until early December is still reasonable for this specific product (unlike engraved decanters or gift sets, which need more lead time).
For whisky given as a Christmas gift, though, the target date is December 25th — about a week less margin than for New Year's Eve champagne. And if your decanter also needs engraving or personalization, add extra production time on top of standard shipping: that detail, more than price, is often what decides whether to order during Black Friday or wait.
What about Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday, three days after Black Friday, generally extends the same deals rather than introducing new ones. On champagne glasses, it's often a last chance for undecided buyers before full sets start running low. On whisky, it's mainly a second chance for decanters that haven't found a buyer yet — but with no guarantee the most detailed models are still available by then.
